Elizabeth S. "Betty" Holtz, 97 of Elgin passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Heritage Manor, Elgin. She was born November 17, 1911 in McHenry, the daughter of Frank and Iva Peterson Hovet.

She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life and was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1929. She had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Co. and then Shakeproof Division of Illinois Tool Works for 28 years before retiring. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elgin.

She was a volunteer at Sherman Hospital for over 20 years, a court watcher in Elgin for seven years and was active with Golden Years at First Congregational Church, Elgin for 15 years.

Surviving are her two sons, James Range of Phoenix, AZ and Richard Range of Elgin; three step-children, Wanda (Bob) Carroll and Mary Ellen (Jim) Coffey both of CA, and Cecil (Madonna) Holtz of Elgin; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her, parents; husband, Fred E. Holtz in 1961; four sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 28 at 1:00 P.M., at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, Elgin with Rev. Mona Walker officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 11:00 A. M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Anderson Animal Shelter, South Elgin.
