Franklin Augustus "Kookie" Bonner, 68, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at his residence.

Franklin was the son of the late Ellis Bo Bonner and Gustava Bonner. He was a graduate of Howard High School Class of 1958 and a retiree from the city of Chattanooga, after 31 years of service. Mr. Bonner was actively involved with the Southside Brotherhood and well known and respected throughout his community and the city.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Bo Bonner; wife, Cora Mae Battle Bonner; his mother-in-law, Nancy Sales.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Linda Bonner; son, Preston B. Bonner, Chattanooga; daughters, Stephanie (Tracy) Penson, Chattanooga, Tira (Willie) Rivera, Chesapeake, Va., Taffany (Christopher) Harris, Virginia Beach, Va.; mother, Gustava Bonner; brother, Lefarron (Jacqueline) Bonner, Chattanooga; eight grandchildren, Vernard Waldrop, Chattanooga, Preston D. Bonner, Nashville, Ciera Barnes, TSU, Tracey Penson, Chattanooga, Rafael and Sescil Rivera, Chesapeake, Va., Deja and Christopher Harris Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters-in-law, Eula M. Chenault, Cincinnati, Ohio, Lois Scott, Dorothy Thomas, Annie Russell, Barbara (Johnny) Cherry, all of Chattanooga; brothers-in-law, W.S. Thompson, Seaside, Calif., and Isaac Murphy, Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; very special friends, Billy and Bonnie Blaylock and JoAnn Hopkins; other relatives and many friends.

He was a victim of murder.
