He was born in Waynestown, W.Va., on Sept. 8, 1930, to Cornellus and Rhoda Jane Hartly Cross.
He was married to Virginia "Ginny" Bell Cross for 59 years. He retired from Associated Medical Products in Indianapolis. He was an Air Force and Korean War veteran. He attended First Baptist Church in Ellettsville, and loved woodworking and tools.
Howard is survived by his wife, Ginny, of Spencer; four sons, Howard O. Cross, Jr. (Alice) of Bloomington, Gary L. Cross (Lee) of Bloomington, Mark E. Cross (Kate) of Shoreline, Wash., and Jon G. Cross (Tonda) of Ellettsville; a brother, Homer Cross of Ellettsville; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chandler Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Villanova officiating. Burial will be in Chambersville Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Spencer VFW and American Legion.
