Soldier in the War of 1812
Farmer in Perry County, Ohio

As a child, Daniel moved from Rockingham County, Virgina, to Ohio with his parents. He grew up in a German Baptist Brethren family. When he was 18 years old, he served as a Private in the War of 1812, in Captain John A. COLLINS' company from Ohio. He served only briefly, from July 31 to August 14, 1813.

Daniel married Nancy WELTY on Sept. 11, 1817, in Fairfield Co., Ohio. The marriage produced 11 children: Catharine, Elizabeth, Sarah, Lydia, Solomon, Susan, Nancy, Daniel, John H., Abraham, and Rebecca.

On October 8, 1924, he purchased a quarter section of land located in Perry County, Ohio, six miles east of Bremen, on which he lived until his death. The land was described as "the northeast quarter of section seven, in township fourteen, of range sixteen." (Source: land deed.)

Daniel died five months before his wife died. He was 63 years old.

Daniel's information begins on page 126 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY.

Inscription

Dearest friends, oh do not weep,
I am not dead but here do sleep.
Though cold and silent is my bed,
My rest is sweet, my sorrow fled.
