Susannah grew up in a German Baptist family, the daughter of Casper HUFFORD and Catharine STIHLI.
On January 18, 1818, in Lancaster, Fairfield Co., Ohio, she married David BEERY (son of John "Red John" BEERY and Margaret SHAVER). Susannah and her husband were hotel keepers; they ran the hotel called the Four Mile House in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio.
Ten children were born to the marriage: Solomon, Rachel, Philemon, Aaron, Jackson, Edward, John W., Jefferson, Aurora, and Sarah.
On May 10, 1847, her husband enlisted in the U.S. Army for service in the Mexican War. He died while in service on January 30, 1848, and his remains were interred in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico.
Three of Susannah and David's sons served in the Union Army during the Civil War: Edward, Jefferson, and Aurora. Their son Jefferson died while a POW at Andersonville. (There was a grandson through the son Jefferson: William Beery.)
Susannah is listed on page 166 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY.
