Mark Benton Crist, 48, a resident of Barstow for 47 years, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004. He was born in Minden, Neb., on May 3, 1956. Mark taught P.E. and science for Barstow Unified School District for 19 years. He enjoyed hiking in the Sierras and camping along the beach with family and friends. He loved his little red Volkswagen and had a passion for music, which included playing the drums, piano, harmonica, and playing with his band ‘The Receding Hairlines'. He was a collector of Revolutionary War toy soldiers. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Crist. Survivors include his loving wife, Dora; sons, Ryan and Austin Boyes; parents, George and Beverly Crist of Barstow; brothers, Mike Crist of Barstow, and Pat Clancy, his wife Lisa, and their sons Nate and Luke of Colorado; sisters, Kay Crist-Lovato and her son Vincent of Barstow, and Maureen Williams, her husband John and their children, Matthew and Katrina of Crestline. A service will be held Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004 at 5 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2790 Barstow Road. A fellowship dinner will follow at the church. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to his favorite charities: National Wildlife Federation, Contribution Dept., P.O. Box 9004, Winchester, Va. 22604-9004 or to the Sierra Club by calling 415-977-5653, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
