He was a bright, young man, and in 1901, the Center Ass'n approved him for license, and in 1902, he was ordained. He then served as clerk of that conference for about two years, when he was elected to be moderator.
His young wife, Cordelia, died in 1895, leaving him with small children.
He pastored churches in the association until about 1906, when he and some of his family moved to Scott Co. AR., where he lived until his death, remaining faithful to his calling.
