LEWIS2 BOHANNON, SR. (WILLIAM1) was born 1783 in Henry Co., Virginia, and died April 24, 1853 in Putnam Co., Tennessee. He married (1) LUCY LOWER ABT 1802 in Tennessee. She died Aft. March 16, 1826. He married (2) NANCY KERR Aft. April 19, 1828 in Tennessee. She was born February 22, 1791, and died May 26, 1850 in White Co., Tennessee. He married (3) CATHERINE HENRY March 6, 1851 in White Co., Tennessee -3rd. wife, daughter of VINET HENRY and ROSANNA LOWER. She was born December 26, 1819 in White Co., Tennessee, and died March 28, 1879 in Putnam Co., Tennessee

Lewis Bohannon, born in Virginia c. 1783, was the next to last of eight children born to William Bohannon and his second wife, Judith Legg Bohannon. His father, William Bohannon had another family of eight children by his first wife who died c. 1772. Some of these children were very young when their mother died and Judith probably raised them along with her own eight children. Not all of the first family accompanied the large William Bohannon family that moved to Tennessee, c. 1809 to settle on the land granted to William for service in the Revolutionary War. Although already married, son Lewis and wife Lucy Bohannon did move with the William Bohannon family to White County.
Not much is known of the life of Lewis and his wife Lucy Lowry Bohannon. They married c. 1804, in Virginia. They were the parents of ten children (Elijah was the third born). They lived the remainder of their lives in White County, on land belonging to Lewis's father William Bohannon. Lewis died in 1853 and Lucy in 1859. Records are on file in White County regarding the disposition of land and personal property of Lewis Bohannon, along with court records providing for the care of Lucy Bohannon, referred to as the "deaf and dumb" widow of Lewis Bohannon.
Of the ten children born to Lewis and Lucy Bohannon, the youngest son, James remained in White County and was executor of his father's estate. He also puchased the shares of land inherited by his brothers, William, Elijah, Lewis (II) and his sister Rebecca Bohannon McBride, all of whom had migrated first to Illinois, then to Missouri before the death of their parents. The brothers and sister who settled in Missouri never returned to Tennessee, but a letter written in 1859 to his brother James in Tennessee is filed with the legal papers of Elijah Bohannon in the Laclede County, Mo. courthouse.
