I am indeed a direct descendant of Robertson Bryant (born 11 Feb 1795, Granville Co., NC - died 2 Feb 1872, Maury Co., TN) and Nancy Ann Amis (born 11 Sep 1801 NC - died 6 Sep 1868, Maury Co., TN). They are my g-g-g grandparents. Robertson and Nancy had 15 children:

Martha Elizabeth Bryant. Born 13 Apr 1828, Maury Co., TN - died 31 Mar. 1925, Austin, Travis Co., TX. She married Joseph Thomas Jackson (brother of Martha C. Jackson above), 10 Feb. 1847, Maury Co., TN.

Isaiah Burney Bryant. Born 5 Mar 1834, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN - died 10 Jul 1917, Bigbyville, Maury Co., TN. Married Emily (Emma) Louis Frey, 20 Sep 1866, Mooresville, Marshall Co., TN. This is my direct line - Isaiah and Emma L. Bryant are my g-g grandparents.
Louisana Bee Bryant. Born 20 Jul 1836, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN - died 21 May 1919, Maury Co., TN. Married William Samuel Lee Neelley, 15 Nov 1860, Maury Co., TN.
James Alonzo Bryant. Born 21 Sep 1839, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN - died 13 Sep 1840, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN. Died young, never married.
Lavinia Lemon Bryant. Born 25 Feb 1842, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN - died 16 Aug 1931, Spring Hill, Maury Co., TN. Married Robert Hawkins Moore, 17 Apr 1866, Parks Station, Maury Co., TN. This is Ronnie Erwin's direct line.

Rowland Edward Bryant. Born 12 Jul 1847, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN - died 20 Aug 1894, Beebe, White Co., Arkansas. Married Francina Almeta Smith, 25 Feb 1873, Maury Co., TN.
Misniah Eugenia Bryant. Born 24 Jul 1850, near Park Station, Maury Co., TN - died 3 Jul 1919, Maury Co., TN. Married William Spark C. Caskey, 22 Dec 1870, Maury Co., TN.
All of these children were carefully recorded in the Robertson Bryant bible (along with many family slaves). While Robertson and Nancy did have a child named Robert (born 1819), is does not appear that it is your Robert (born 1860?). They also had a child named James (born 1839) but he died as a little boy and could not be your James L. Bryant.

BUT, all is not lost. There were multiple Robertson Bryants. There was Robertson Bryant, born 4 Jan 1817 in Granville Co., NC, who was the son of John Farrington Bryant and Sarah Woodson Amis. This Robertson Bryant married Mary Jane Hunter Edwards (she was born about 1825, NC) on 10 Feb 1845 in Franklin, Macon Co., NC. He died 1 Feb 1880 in Fordyce, Dallas Co., AR. Robertson and Mary Jane Bryant had 8 children (that I know about). One was Robert Patrick Bryant, born 1862 in Fordyce, Dallas Co., AR. To my knowledge, this couple did not have a son named James. Please know, however, I am not nearly as familiar with this family, so my information could be faulty.

'My' Robertson Bryant's parents were Rowland Bryant and Mary Rosa Hunt. Any chance your line could have descended from one of their children (would have been siblings with Robertson)? Rowland/Roland was also a popular Bryant name
