Gotto Kabobel, of Saginaw, Michigan, was called home to his Lord on November 9, 2008, at age 92 years.

Gotto was born on May 8, 1916 in Silverwood, Mich. to the late Alexander and Eva (Fromm) Kabobel. He was married to Ella Becker on April 4, 1937 in Saginaw, where she survived him.

Gotto served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Prior to his retirement in 1980, Gotto was employed as a layout person at Baker Perkins for 44 years. He was a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, having served on various boards. He was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross, and the Saginaw Township Parks and Recreation Dept. for 36 years.

In recognition of his time with the parks, the area alongside Zauel Memorial Library was named Gotto's Playland in his honor.

Gotto enjoyed reading and yard work.

Surviving besides his wife, Ella Kabobel, were their son Ronn Kabobel, Saginaw Twp.; two grandchildren; Kristine Kabobel, Saginaw; Aaron Kabobel, St. Clair Shores, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Brooke (Russell) Purkiss, Joseph Spahr, Ronald Spahr; two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Purkiss, Waylon Purkiss; and one brother, Edward (Margaret) Kabobel, Saginaw.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Ronald F. Kabobel, Jr., daughter-in-law, Shirley Kabobel, granddaughter, Kimberley Gaffney, and five sisters and four brothers, Emma Adolf, Lydia Krass, Alex Kabobel, Jr., Otto Kabobel, Hilda Sujkowski, Frieda Miles, Eva Lebsack, William Kabobel and Daniel Kabobel.

Funeral Celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2110 Brockway Rd. The Rev. Kathleen Basner will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, where military honor guard will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post 439. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Resurrection Lutheran Church or Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center.
