Bertha V. Brockman, 89, Lawrence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln. She was a lifelong resident of Lawrence.

The funeral was Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, with the Rev. Gary Gross officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mrs. Brockman was born Feb. 8, 1900, at Lawrence.

Nov. 27, 1923, she married Leo V. Brockman at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Lawrence. They moved to a farm northeast of Lawrence in 1930. Retiring in 1964, they moved into Lawrence. He died Aug. 5, 1974.

Survivors include one son, Robert, Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. Leland Minarik (Bernadine) of Omaha and Mrs. Al Ballweg (Dorothy) of Lincoln; one sister, Maggie Brockman, Grand Island; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bertha Brockman were held Wednesday, August 2, 1989 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence, Nebraska with Rev. Gary Gross officiating. Lector at the Mass was grandson, Joe Minarik of Omaha. Organist was Caroline Brockman song leader was Tom Dolinek. A rosary preceded the funeral Mass. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons Robert Brockman, Jr., Richard Brockman and Everett LeForce. Nephews Allo Hoelting, Kenneth Brockman and Walter Menke.

Bertha was born to Stephen and Anna (Bentler) Hoelting on February 8, 1900 at Lawrence. She died July 30, 1989 at Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 22 days. Bertha attended St. Stephen school and married Leo Brockman on November 27, 1923 at St. Stephen's church (sic). To this union four children were born.

In 1930 the family moved to a farm northeast of Lawrence where they resided until retirement to Lawrence in 1964. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish, the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Bertha was a devout Catholic, a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother and sister to her family. She had been in failing health in recent months and especially the last few weeks.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Leo who died in 1974, her son Maurice in 1979, sister Mary Rempe and brothers Joe and John Hoelting.

Survivors are daughters Mrs. Leland (Bernadine) Minarik of Omaha, and Mrs. Al (Dorothy) Ballweg of Lincoln; son Robert (wife Marjorie) of Bellevue; daughter-in-law Margaret Brockman of Moore, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister Maggie Brockman of Grand Island; many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Lawrence, Blue Hill, Deweese, Superior, Guide Rock, Hastings, Kearney, Grand Island, Lincoln, Omaha, Bellevue, Beatrice, Platte Center, Pender, Oconto, Moore, Oklahoma, Sacramento, Calif., Topeka, Ks., Plano, Texas, Memphis, Missouri.
