Miss Ruth Dowlen, 82, Windom native and retired school music teacher, died at her home in Lubbock of an apparent heart attack, Sept. 1, 1979.

A native of Windom, Miss Dowlen was born Dec. 12, 1896, the daughter of the late William Dowlen and Mary Parham Dowlen.

The funeral Monday afternoon was in the First United Methodist Church in Windom of which Miss Dowlen was a longtime member. A former pastor, the Rev. David Griffin of Bogata was the officiant and interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove, with Wise Funeral Home of Bonham directing.

Named pallbearers were John Bomar, Ralph Howell, Frank Howell, Choice Moore, Billy Joe Roberts and Sidney Parrish.

Survivors include a nephew, Dr. Joe Dowlen of Baytown and two nieces, Mrs. Nell Barker of New Jersey and Mrs. Mary Ann Eaton of Dallas.

Mrs. Kenneth Scott of Lubbock, with whom Miss Dowlen made her home was a great-niece.

Services for Miss Ruth Marie Dowlen, 82, of Lubbock, who died in her home Saturday were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Windom United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Griffin. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.

Miss Dowlen was born December 12, 1896, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dowlen.

She was a retired school music teacher who graduated from Kid Key College in Sherman and taught music in public schools and also privately. She taught for many years in Ector and Meadows schools.

She was the pianist for her church, the United Methodist in Windom, and also worked with various youth groups.

Survivors include one nephew, Mr. Joe Dowlin of Baytown; two nieces, Mrs. Nell Barker of Short Hills, N.J. and Mrs. Mary Ann Eaton of Dallas; and one great niece, Mrs. Kenneth Scott of Lubbock, with whom Miss Dowlen made her home for the past five years.

While in Windom, Miss Dowlen lived with her sister, Mrs. Eula Schnable and her niece, Mrs. Christine Bell.

Pallbearers were John Bomar, Ralph Howell, Choice Moore, Billy Joe Roberts and Sid Parrish.

Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Cleveland, John Turner, O.W. Gross, the Rev.A.R. Carroll, Leeman Riddles and H.C. King.
