He married Lois Purviance and she preceded him in death also. He retired in 1982 from Owens-Illinois Glass Factory, where he worked for 32 years as a forklift operator. He enjoyed photography, bird watching, reading, traveling, boating, motorcycling, and water skiing. He was an avid Cubs and White Sox fan.

Rowe, Megan McCoy, Jenna McCoy, Angela (Douglas) Burnett, Leath Smith, Ellie Smith; ex son-in-law, Robert McCoy, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Clara, and Alex.
