Rock Springs Miner, Nov 15, 1964

Sophas Marlow Peppinger, 64, Reliance, died Thursday evening at Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had been a patient six days. He had lived in Rock Springs and Reliance 45 years.

Mr. Peppinger was born Sept. 26, 1900, at Canea, Crete, Greece. A former coal miner, he had operated a barber shop on K street.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 2174, and the Barber’s Union.

One son, Michael, who was tail gunner and bomber in the Air Force, was killed in a plane crash July 15, 1944 in Romania.

Survivors are his wife, Bertha, Reliance, two sons, John and George Peppinger, Salt Lake City; three brothers, Michael, John and George Pappadakis, Greece; one sister, Catherine Pappadakis, Greece; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Greek Orthodox Church, the Rev. Lucas Kotzakis officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were William Gibbs, William Sellers, James Kelley, Glen Boyce, Otto Canestrini and Mike Megaskis.
