Ralph W. Kuykendall, 88, of Rushville, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at his residence.

Born July 25, 1918 in Rudy, Ark., he was the son of John Wesley and Eula Margaret (Sloan) Kuykendall, both deceased. He married Louise Minor June 3, 1989; she survives.

Mr. Kuykendall spent much of his life in Arkansas and Missouri. He retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, serving from 1936 to 1962. After a career in the Navy, he began to sell oil in the Midwest. He moved to Rush County in late 1989. He was a 65-year member of Joplin (Mo.) Masonic Lodge No. 315 F.&A.M. Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Lodge in Springfield, Mo.; Scottish Rite; and O.E.S. No. 242 in Indiana. He was a Rush County Democrat Party member and poll worker for many years and a member of the Rushville Church of Christ.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two step daughters, Sydney (Mrs. Luther) Snedegar of Raleigh and LeAnn Gibbons of Bloomingdale, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one step son, Russell E. Ellis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with the Rev. Gerald Holdman officiating. Burial will follow in Raleigh's Zion Cemetery and will include a graveside military service. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and will include a Masonic service at 5:30 p.m.
