Julian Wright Eccles, 83, Klamath Falls, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 1995, in Klamath Falls.

Julian was born in Utah to David Christian Eccles and the former Julia Josephine Wright.

He moved with his family to Portland in June 1920. He was married May 10, 1949, to Peggie Parker, also of Portland.

Pursuing a life-long interest in the automotive industry, he founded Eccles Motor Co. in Klamath Falls in 1951. After retiring from his new car dealership in 1978, he became even more involved in a variety of automotive interests, which inlcuded Klamath Leasing Co.

Mr. Eccles was a lifetime member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and a member of numerous special interest car organizations, such as Classic Car Club of America. He served on the board of directors of the Oregon Autmobile Dealers Association and, for many years, on the board of directors of the Oregon Historical Society.

His knowledge of automotive history was recognized through-out the nation and he was frequently called upon as an expert in the field. In addition to his personal collection of historic motor vehicles that covered the span of automotive history, he amassed a collection of literature, toys and historic documents pertaining to the automotive industry and all of its variations from the late 1890s to today. Despite recurring health problems, Mr. Eccles continued to be active in his enjoyment and love of the automobile and, on the day before his death, drove his 1911 White.

He also supported many civic organizations and activities in the community and Oregon. He was a 27-year member of and past president of the Rotary Club of Klamath Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Peggie, Klamath Falls; sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Carrie Eccles, Denver, Colo., and Edward and Linda Eccles, Tehachapi, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Julianne and Jospeh Frodsham, Medford; brother, David Eccles, Portland; sisters, Judy Page, Portland; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
