Mr. Clark Campbell, was born May 5, 1922 in Lower Peachtree, Alabama to the late David and Annie B. Clark Campbell. He was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life where he was a city bus operator for 62 years. Mr. Campbell began his career in 1944 with the Safe Bus Company, which was a predecessor of the Winston-Salem Transit Authority. He retired in 1995, but still continued to work part time until 2006. In March 2007, the city held a celebration to rename the Winston-Salem Transportation Center after him, the Campbell Transportation Center. He remained on the active driver list until he passed away. Mr. Campbell was a good man and also spiritual man who loved people. He was a member of First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers,Jonathan and Theodore Clark; two sisters, Beatrice Gwyn and Geraldine Brown and a son, Keith Caldwell. He departed this life Tuesday December 30, 2008 at his residence. Surviving are his devoted wife of the home, Christine Campbell; three sons, Lavone Christopher(Sheryre) Campbell, Kerry Wayne(Pamela) Campbell and Waddell Caldwell; one daughter, Esther Crayton all of Winston-Salem; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; seven great- great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Beatrice Campbell, Geraldine(Harry) Davis and Hazel(Otis) Donaldson; one brother-in-law, Hubert Caldwell of OKC, OK; a host of nieces including devoted nieces, Jessie Chapman, Myrtle Campbell, Gloria Whatley, and DaSilva Cohen; a host of nephews, including devoted nephews, Calvin L. Campbell and Richard Gwyn; great nieces, great nephews other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held Monday January 5, 2009 at 1:00pm from First Baptist Church, Highland Avenue with Rev. Glenn Pettiford officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Walkertown, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-1:00pm Monday at the church.
