BLACKFOOT - Floyd Orson Shipley, 94, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Willows care facility in Blackfoot.
Floyd was born on May 19,1913, in Idaho Falls to Orson Albert and Emma Elnora Nixon Shipley. He was raised in the Idaho
Falls area, attending school in Kelly, Iona and Osgood. He graduated from Ammon High School and attended one year at Ricks College.
Floyd married Leone Ruth Call in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. When they were first married they lived in Osgood, Idaho Falls and Alpine, Wyoming. They moved to Chesterfield, Idaho,in 1940, where they farmed. They bought a dairy in Springfield in 1957. In 1970, they moved to Blackfoot, where Floyd worked at Rocky Mountain Machinery until his retirement.
Together, Floyd and Leone had six children, five sons and one daughter. Leone preceded him in death in 1985. He later married Helen Shipley, his brother's widowed wife; she preceded him in death in 2006.
Floyd was an avid Scouter. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and he served as a Scoutmaster for many years. He also loved baseball and coached many youth teams. Floyd was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reminiscing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by a daughter, JoBeth (LaVar) Bradley of Aberdeen; five sons, DeVaughn (Patricia), LeRoy (Sharon) and Dean (Juanita), all of Blackfoot, Douglas (Sue) of Pingree, Ronald (LaNette) of Pueblo West, Colorado; a sister, Mary Donna Barnes of Blackfoot; 30 grandchildren, 108 greatgrandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leone, his parents, a brother, Merrill, two sisters, Margaret and Lucille, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008, at the Moreland First Ward LDS building, with Bishop Kim Kunz conducting. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday morning at the church. Interment will be in the Chesterfield Cemetery at 3 p.m., under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Creekside Home Health and Hospice and the Willows Assisted Living Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Creekside Home Health and Hospice, 1246 Yellowstone Ave., Pocatello, Idaho 83201.
