He was born April 24, 1923, in Taylorsville, the son of William White and Margaret Feimster White.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and his beloved grandmother, Ethel (Mimie) White.
Bill White grew up in Taylorsville and was a member of the Taylorsville Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Taylorsville High School class of 1941 and also the senior class president. There he lettered in football, basketball and baseball and was the captain of the football and basketball teams. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he lettered in football and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. His education was interrupted to proudly serve his country during World War II. Bill joined the Naval Air Corps in 1942 and trained at the universities of South Carolina, Miami, Georgia and Pardue. He served in the Admiralty Islands, New Guinea and South Pacific and took part in the invasion of the Philippines. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal, the Victory World War II medal, the Asia Pacific Theater medal and the Philippines Liberation medal with one star. Bill was discharged in April 1946 and returned to UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated in December 1950 with an AB degree. Bill never stopped being a true UNC fan. He also attended Mexico City College in Mexico City in 1948. In 1951, Bill worked for GMAC and in 1953 he was employed by Libby Owens Ford and lived in Buffalo, N.Y., as a salesman. In 1960, he was employed by Champion Paper Company as a salesman and lived in Paris, Texas. In 1961, Bill moved back to Taylorsville and joined his father at White Insurance. He became owner of White Insurance in 1967 and operated the agency for 28 years. In his many travels, he has visited all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Caribbean Islands, Bahamas Islands, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Philippines, Australia, Guam and Mariana Islands.
Survivors include two uncles, Wade Feimster and Fred Feimster of Charlotte; one aunt, Jane F. Rakestraw and husband, Chris, of Morganton; numerous cousins, one who has been like a brother to Bill, Guy Barriger and wife, Linda, of Taylorsville; and special friends, Richard Allrad of Randleman, and Loretta Boston and husband, Jonathan, of Taylorsville.
A graveside service in Taylorsville Cemetery will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, with the Rev. Paul Sink and George Holleman (cousin to Bill) officiating.
