WALTER DIED IN THE RAPID CITY FLOOD
Walter Albert Juhnke was born May 23, 1911 to Albert and Emma Kruger Juhnke at Wasta in Pennington County South Dakota. He married Betty Myrtle Simons in Pennington County in Oct of 1934, they were divorced, he married Eileen Whipple in 1948 in Pennington County. Walter enlisted in the Army in 1944 at Ft Snelling MN and was stationed in Puerto Rico. He married Ethel Divine in 1959 in Rapid City. When Walter came to Rapid City in 1945 he was employed by Warren Lamb Lumber. He had been employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad since 1955 as a fire builder.
He was a foster father to Joyce Christianson and Arlin Mesteth who also died in the flood. Among his survivors is his wife, Ethel. He had brothers Edmond who died in 1918, Leslie, Charles, Chester who died in 1968, Richard & 1 sister-Hattie. His mother died in 1934 his father in 1951, they are buried at Fairburn SD.
