"Sherwood Voice", Aug. 9, 2004 - Edith Nielsen, age 83 of Watertown, a former Wilmot resident, died July 14, 2004, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, due to cancer. Services were held on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilmot Lutheran Church. Rev. Clara Wadsworth officiated. Music was presented by Neoma Ballhagen, organist and Edith's grandchildren: Lance E. Nielsen, Stacey Eggert and Tami Nielsen. Honorary bearers were all grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private family interment service will be held at a later date.

Florence Edith Nielsen was born June 9, 1921, at Park City, MT, the daughter of William "Bill" and Nellie (Earl) Darrington. She lived most of her life in the Wilmot area and attended rural school. She was united in marriage on June 12, 1939, with Loren "Bud" Nielsen. The couple farmed together in Roberts County. Edith worked for NESD Community Action for Roberts County. She was a nurse's aid in Wilmot and in Sisseton and also worked as a social worker and a hospice care giver in northeast South Dakota.

Edith was a member of the Wilmot Lutheran Church. She enjoyed writing poetry for family and friends, with some poems being published. She loved to cook and bake and to share her food with everyone. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Steve and Barbara Nielsen of Wilmot, SD, Lance and Barbara Nielsen of Watertown, SD, James and Vivene Nielsen of Brainerd, MN, Dorothy and Elmo Keith of Glendale, AZ, Russell and Sue Nielsen of Sioux Falls, SD, and Rosemary and Dale Peery of Wilmot; 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Robert and Kate Darrington of Troy, ID.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Vance John; one grandson, Ricky Jerome Nielsen; one step-grandson, Shane Pew; two brothers and two sisters.
The Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements for Edith Nielsen.
