Maudie Hester Ambers, daughter of Manuel "Mannie" and Theodosia "Dosia" Whittington Ambers, married William George "Willie" Whittington, son of Junius G. and Lucinda Celia Stall Whittington, on August 17, 1903 at Gurdon, Ark. Willie was the grandson of Granville and Cordelia Wilder Whittington. Maudie and Willie were the parents of two children, both born in Mount Ida, Richard Rudell Whittington and Mary Virginia Whittington. Richard married Christine Doyel, daughter of James R. and Mary Lee Huddleston Doyel of Oden, and Mary Virginia married Cleo Ray of Mount Ida.

During World War II Maudie helped her husband Willie with the operation of Whittington's Pharmacy in Mount Ida. Willie was not only the pharmacist for the county's residents but also was consulted much as a physician and veterinarian would be. They retired on January 1, 1946.
