Mrs. Bera Newberry Diggs, 90, of Paris Route 1 died Monday evening at Puryear Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Johnson's Chapel United Methodist Church with Randy Jetton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. McEvoy Funeral Home has charge. Visitation will be after 5 PM today.
Named as pallbearers were Thomas Lemonds, Barry Crowe, Jim Hamilton, Ernie Diggs, Lucien Thomas and Emmett Pritchett.
Mrs. Diggs was born Nov. 14, 1983, in Weakley County, a daughter of the late George Washington and Augusta Janes Newberry. She was married in December 1910 to Ernest Lawrence Diggs, who preceded her in death April 21, 1963.
She attended George Peabody College and taught school at Eagle Hill and Butler in Weakley County and at Routon in Henry County. She was a homemaker and a member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Ernestine McClure of McKenzie and Mrs. Nell Kroll of Knoxville; three sons: Edwin J. Diggs of Jackson, George A. Diggs of Paris and Jerry S Diggs of Nashville; and 11 grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sisters: Piggy Newberry in infancy and Nora Adams; and six brothers: Curtis, George C., Charlie, Horace, Ed and Talamage Newberry.
