Rose received her schooling in the public schools of Sanignaw, Michigan and there celebrated her first marriage which united her with Neil B. Torrey, a native of that state. They had two children; Roger D. Torrey born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, reared and educated in Klamath Falls, and Ellenor M. Torrey was born in Petrosky, Michigan and attended the University of Oregon at Eugene.

Rose came to Klamath County in 1910 and the following year filed on a homestaed on Upper Lake. She entered business circles as office manager of the Klamath Development Company and in 1918 embarked in business with her husband when he purchased the Liberty Theater. Rose was a charter member of the League of Women Voters and the Business and Professional Women's Club. After her husband died in 1939, she took over the theater business.
