CHARLESTON -- Mabel "Granny" Germaine Hunsperger, 79, died at 12:10 p.m. Aug. 21, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 19, 1927, in Mississippi County, daughter of the late Riley and Anoma Givens, she had lived in Mississippi County her entire life. She was employed as a certified nursing assistant at the Charleston Manor for 15 years, then worked as a private duty nurse for several years until her retirement.
In 1943, she married Curtis Lincoln Hunsperger, who preceded her in death in 1970.
Also preceding her in death were: two sons, Donald Lee Hunsperger and Randall Hunsperger; one daughter, Connie Farrell; two brothers, Carl Givens and Jr. Givens; one sister, Dorothy Smith; and one grandson, Donald Wayne Hunsperger.
Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald and Jeanne Hunsperger of Arnold and Jimmy Hunsperger of Charleston; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jean McGinnis of Wyatt and Kathie and Steve Moore of Benton; one sister, Pauline Ditto of East Prairie; and 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston, officiated. A eulogy was given by her niece, Verna Hyde.
Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers were: Jason Hunsperger, Shane Shands, Leroy Blasingain, Jason Blasingain, Thomas Smith, Chris Martin and Lance Tubbs.
