John S. Provines, 90, Sumner, died at 11:24 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 1991 at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Provines will be Saturday afternoon with Rev. Burl Shinkle and Rev. David Barron officiating. Burial will be at Sumner City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sivert-Macey Funeral Home in Sumner.

Mr. Provines was born April 22,1901 in Lawrence Countv, the son of Richard and Savannah (Corrie) Provines. He married Edna Slunaker. She survives in Sumner.

He was retired from Brian Lumber Company in Bridgeport, having worked there for 32 years. He was a charter member of the Free Methodist Church in Sumner.

Survivors include two sons, Harold Provines, Robinson, Bill Provines, Davenport, Okla.; two daughters, Vannie Hickey, Greenville, Shirley Cox, Moweaqua; two brothers, Richard Provines, Carmi, Marshall Provines, Lawrenceville; one sister, Faye Backus, Chesterfield, Mo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and his parents.
