In June, 1947, the missing airplane was discovered by loggers. It had crashed in a near vertical dive close to Gaff Topsail, a railroad camp roughly 85 miles west of Gander.
The crew killed were:

1st Lt. Graham L McBride, O-667170, AZ
2nd Lt. Oakley E Hess, O-793619, WV
Sgt. Raymond F Mennig, 33328375, PA
