Carlton L. Lumbard, 76, of Plainville, beloved husband of Barbara (Brigham) Lumbard, passed away on Saturday January 17, 2009 at Hartford Hospital.


He was born August 22, 1932 in Gloucester, MA, son of the late George and Mary (Doucette) Lumbard.


A resident of Plainville since 1963, he was employed at Lucent Technologies for 42 years until his retirement in 1992.


He was a member of St. Matthew Church in Forestville. Carlton was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family brought him great joy. He had a tremendous sense of humor, was a kind hearted soul, a great listener and story teller. His family has many fond memories and he was loved by all who knew him.


Besides his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his three children, Ralph Lumbard and his wife, Sandra of Bristol, Barbara Arute and her husband, Frank of Wethersfield, and Cheryl Benvenuto and her husband, Rudy of Avon; his three grandchildren, Frank Arute, Lauren Arute, and Michael Benvenuto; his sister, Muriel Feener of Gloucester, MA; his sister-in-law, Maryann Lumbard of Gloucester, MA; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by three brothers and one sister.


Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 10:30 a.m. from the O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue, Forestville, to St. Matthew Church, Forestville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Plainville.
Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
