Robert served as a 1st Lieutenant and Pilot on B-24H (#42-64446), 721st Bomber Squadron, 450th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Rusk County, Texas prior to the war.

B-24H #42-64446 took off, with a crew of 10, from Manduria, Italy on a bombing mission over the Aero-Engine works near Steyr, Austria. 10 minutes before the target approximately 75 German Fighter's attacked the squadron. B-24H #42-64446 was hit and fire was seen coming from the fuselage and the waste window. They were also seen crashing in Austria.

Robert was "Killed In Action in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in St. Avold and was later repatriated here on June 21, 1950.
