Rev. Charlie Browning , 78, of Chenoa, Ky., died Wednesday, at his home.
He was born March 6, 1906 in Knox Co., Ky., the son of the late James and Doxie Evans Browning.
He was a member and former pastor of New Vine Baptist Church. He was a retired United Mine Worker and a member of the Local No. 1569. He was a Baptist minister of 51 years pastoring Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Chenoa Baptist Church, Old Popular Creek Baptist Church, Popular Creek Baptist Church, Tracey Branch Baptist Church, New Vine Baptist Church, Salem No. 2 Baptist Church, Davis Chapel Baptist Church, Liberty Baptist Church, Midway Baptist Church, Locust Grove Baptist Church at Carpenter, Ebeneezer Baptist Church and many others.
He was married to the late Parasita Partin in 1925 and to that union there are 10 surviving children.
He married Ethel (Hembree) Golden in 1952. The had one son.
He was preceded in death by three infant children; one step-daughter, Roxie Maiden; one grandson, Danny Browning; three brothers, Hugh, John, and Oscar Browning; two sisters Mary and Maude Fuson.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Browning, Chenoa, Ky.; seven sons, Earl Browning, Wallins Creek, Ky., Clarence Browning, Clinton, Tenn., Donald Browning, Jackson, Mich., Homer Browning, John D. Browning, and Charles E. Browning, all of Chenoa, Ky., Roy Browning, Lake Zurki, Ill; four daughters, Trula Bray and Thelma Miracle, both of Frakes, Ky., Opal Webb and Hazel Evans, both of Chenoa, Ky; two step-daughters, Hazel Russell, Talbott, Tenn., Mossie Collins, Springfield, Ohio; two brothers , Joe Browning, Frakes, Ky., Hillary Browning, Middlesboro; 27 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Vine Baptist Church with the Rev. Mart Miracle, Rev Chesley Miracle, Rev. Johnny Partin and Rev. Wade Partin officiating. Music will be by the New Vine Baptist Church Choir.
Burial will be in the New Vine Cemetery with Willie Hatfield, J.B. Maiden, Clifford Maiden, Porter Maiden, Austin Evans, Toy Webb, John W. Partin, and Lonnie A. Partin serving as pallbearers.
Creech Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
