Husband of Sally J. Tangen who resided in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Bjarne served as a Captain & Bombardier on B-26B #42-96113, 585th Bomber Squadron, 394th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in St. Louis County, Minnesota prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on July 12, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office machine operator and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-26B #42-96113 took off from Station 455, England on an operational mission to Nogent Sur Seine, France. They were hit and shot down by German ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Lisieux, France during the war.

Bjarne was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on June 22, 1950.

Service # O-432994

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
