Maurice (Sonny, Luke) Lucas, Jr. of Mount Holly died Thursday, January 15th, 2009 at his residence. He was 82.
Mr. Lucas was born in Pemberton and was one of 15 children of the late Maurice and Esther Fallon Lucas. He was raised in the village of Rancocas in Westampton, Mr. Lucas was an Army veteran of World War II and a former member of the Rancocas Fire Company. He was a school bus driver for Wills Bus Service for 45 years, and was a security guard for ADT in Pennsauken and his last employment was working for NADE in Bordentown. Mr. Lucas was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church where he served as an usher for 50 years and he was an active volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters: Maryellen Lucas of St. Petersburg, FL, and Alison Lucas of Eastampton, three grandchildren: Charles Lucas, Rhiannon Cooper and LeeAnne Lucas and a great granddaughter, Riley Doomer. He is also survived by six sisters: Elizabeth Poehls and Barbara (David) Farace of Moorestown, Gloria Rapagna, Kay (Bobby) Dever and Janet (Harry) Curran, all of Rancocas and Marie (Harry) Fry of Burlington Twp; and six brothers: Fred of Mount Holly, Edward "Russell" of Delran, Robert "Speedy" of Burlington Twp., Richard (Patricia) of Southampton, James of Browns Mills and Woody of Rancocas and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Virginia Lucas and John Lucas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, High Street and Bartram Ave., Mount Holly.
Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery will be for family members only.
Friends may call Sunday from 7-9PM at the PERINCHIEF CHAPELS, 438 High Street, Mount Holly and Monday from 10:30-11:30 at the church.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 260 High Street, Mount Holly 08060.
