Son of Charles E. Shea who resided in Miltonvale, Kansas.

Francis served as a Staff Sergeant and Gunner on B-24J (#44-40929), 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cloud County, Kansas prior to the war.

B-24J #44-40929 took off from Morotai Island on a bombing mission to Miri. During this mission it was believed that this B-24 was hit by enemy flak causing them to crash in Indonesia during the war.

Francis was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Manila, Philippine Islands and was later repatriated here on January 16, 1950.

Service # 37537086

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
