Pfc. Ricky Turner of Decatur, Alabama attended Athens High School and then Decatur High School graduating with a his GED in 2007. While in school, he was a member of ROTC. He joined the Army after graduating and deployed to Iraq in December 2008. His father, James, was proud when Ricky took strides toward becoming a man and joined the Army 2 1/2 years before. Ricky was proud of himself too. It was something he was sure he wanted when he joined on September 11 2006. He thought that would be something he could excel in. Ricky was recently married. He died at age 20 as a result of injuries when an improvised explosive device blew up a military vehicle he was riding in near Baghdad. In addition to his father, Ricky is survived by his wife, Nikki Turner, his mother, Regina "Susan" Grimes, a brother, SFC Jimmy Grimes, who also is stationed overseas, and his grandmother, Dorothy M. Turner. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Arsey Lee Turner.
