Paris News, June 12, 1956 - Honey Grove

Ernest Melton Bankhead, 69, of Rt. 2, Honey Grove, died Monday night at 10:40 o'clock. He had been a patient four days at the Sanitarium of Paris, where his death occurred.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m., but the place had not been announced. Cooper's Funeral Home will make burial in Oakwood Cemetery here.

Mr. Bankhead was born at Mount Vernon, November 18, 1886, son of John W. and Eliza Bell (Llittrell) Bankhead, and he married Miss Nannie Bessie Cunningham, october 6, 1971.

Surviving besides his wife and his mother, who lives now in Bonham, are these sons: Master Sgt. Leonard Bankhead, Waco; Raymond Bankhead, Honey Grove, and Magness Bankhead, Sherman; two grandchildren, and these brothers and sisters: Clyde Bankkhead, Hale Center; Elmer Bankhead, Vernon; Mrs. Virgie McGee, Bonham; Mrs. Fannie Williams, Estelline, and Mrs. Willie Knight, Salinas, Calif.

Ernest Bankhead Rites Held Today

Honey Grove

Funeral services for Ernest Bankhead, 69, who died in a Paris hospital June 11, 1956, were held at the Methodist church here at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

He had been sick for only four days.

The Rev. Raymond Partlow, Presbyterian pastor of Louisiana, and the Rev. Raymond Thompler, pastor of the Methodist church here, conducted the service. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Johnny and Theo Avery, Earl and Dale Collins, Frank Wishard and Raymond Thurman.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Nannie Bessie Cunningham Bankhead of the home, Rt. 2, Honey Grove; his mother, Mrs. Eliza Bankhead of Bonham; three sons, M/Sgt. Leonard Bankhead of Waco, Raymond Bankhead of Honey Grove and Magnus Bankhead of Sherman; two brothers, Clyde Bankhead of Hale Center and Elmer Bankhead of Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Virgie McKee of Bonham; and Mrs. Fannie Williams and Mrs. Willie Knight, both of California, and two grandchildren.

A native of Texas, Mr. Bankhead was born at Mt. Vernon Nov. 18, 1886. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bankhead.

In 1917 he was married to Miss Nannie Bessie Cunningham, and the couple made their home in the Dial community for many years where he was a farmer.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.
