John was born January 23, 1923 in Hollidaysburg, PA, the son of Harry Bancroft and Christine Ott Bancroft. His marriage to Helen Marie Shoenfelt took place on May 17, 1946.

He served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force as a crew member of the 8th Air Force 303 Bomb Group. During his working career John was employed as an accountant. John moved to St. Charles, Iowa in 1991.

John is survived by a daughter, Nancy Mellott and husband, Randy of Bedford, Pennsylvania; two sons, John C. Ott and wife, Sharon of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Mark Ott and wife, Donna of Ackworth, Iowa; five grandchildren, Steve Mellott; Stacie Meador and husband, Keith; Michelle Adams; Casandra Koons and husband, Jeremy; Mathew Ott and two great grandchildren, Sarah Mellott and Griffin Meador. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Helen Marie Shoenfelt; his parents and a son, Joseph H. Ott.

Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. August 19, 2004 at Carson Valley Cemetery Interment: Duncansville, Pennsylvania
