Selma "Sally" Saurdiff , 86, died on Monday, March 31, 2003 at the Warroad Care Center in Warroad, MN.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 4, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Valley Township, Marshall County, MN.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Johnson-Green Funeral home in Thief River Falls, MN with a 6:00 P.M. prayer service on Thursday evening and at the church one hour prior to services on Friday.
Selma Amanda Dalos was born on January 16, 1917 in Benville Township, near Grygla, MN, the daughter of Bernhard and Oline (Wikoren) Dalos. She was baptized and confirmed at Valley Lutheran Church and attended Dalos School and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1933. Following High School she attended North Star Teachers College in Warren, MN. Selma taught at Dalos School from 1936-1941.
On September 21, 1940 Selma was united in marriage to Paul Leon Saurdiff, Sr. in Baudette, MN. She was a Bookkeeper for Saurdiff Trucking, she owned and operated the Grygla Café and she also worked as a census taker of many years.
Selma enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She and her husband, Paul, enjoyed rides in ‘the countryside' to Fourtown, Twins Baseball, feeding the birds and raising a garden to feed her family. Most of all she enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by nine children: Sharon (Anthony) Kozojed of Thief River Falls, MN, Paul (Julie) Saurdiff, Jr. of Grand Forks, ND, Richard (Diane) Saurdiff of Warroad, MN, Diane (Bruce) Sandahl of Lancaster, MN, David (Gwen) Saurdiff of Grygla, MN, Steve (Susan) Saurdiff of Grygla, MN, Susan (Bill) Hamilton of Skaneateles, NY, Lee (Betsy) Saurdiff of Grygla, MN and Jill (Lee) Olson of Warroad, MN; 29 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother, Carl Julian Dalos of Grygla, MN; one sister, Ellen M. (William) Wilson of Elmondo, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Selma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul in 1998; four brothers: Ludvig A.Dalos, Sidney Dalos, Sivert Olai Dalos and Oliver (Stella) Dalos and four sisters: Dena (Clifford) Wolin, Bertha Dalos, Randi Dalos and Lila (Irvin) Anderson.
