CRAB ORCHARD - Elby Hopkins, 77, of Crab Orchard passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his home.

He was the husband of Loretta Naylor Hopkins, whom he married April 11, 1952.

Born July 28, 1931, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Ewell and Ellen Saylor Hopkins. He was a former employee of Whirlpool and Matsushita in Danville, and a member of Crab Orchard Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Naylor Hopkins; two daughters, Sandy (Marshall) Scott and Chelsea Hopkins, both of Crab Orchard; a son, Lester (Shelley) Hopkins of Crab Orchard; a brother, Johnny Hopkins of Berea; two sisters, Blanche Saylor and Eunice Causey, both of Crab Orchard; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Elby was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky and Eddy Wayne Hopkins (1953-2008) .

The funeral will be noon Friday at McKnight Funeral Home by Bro. J.M. Mark Raulerson. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Kemp, Bradley McLaren, Josh Fletcher, Marshall Brown Scott, John Hopkins Scott, Ricky Clay Hopkins, Adam Hopkins, Lucas Grant Hopkins and Matthew Hopkins.

Honorary pallbearers are Bill Dyehouse, Ronnie Sizemore, Ray Noe, Ernest Hopkins, Wayne Napier, Larry Causey, Tommy Saylor, Roger Adams, David and Shelby Roy Hopkins, Bobby Newcomb, Marshall Scott, Doc Hoskins, Bill Rice, Lester Fletcher, Gerald Smith and Billy Hawley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eddy Hopkins Bluegrass Foundation in care of the Broughtontown Community Center, 495 Ky. Hwy. 618, Crab Orchard, KY 40419.
