William B. Hood, age 33 enlisted as a Private in the National Guard on April 27, 1864. On the same day his brothers Henry (36) and Scott (34) and their first cousin Amos L. Hood (26) also enlisted. Amos was the son of Josiah whose brother Simon was the father of William, Henry and Scott. All of the Hoods, except for Scott, mustered out with their regiment at Johnson's Island, Sandusky, Ohio, on August 20, 1864. Scott contracted a disease during his military service and died on July 30th of the same year.

William B. Hood married Roxanne "Roxy" A. Hogle and they moved to W. Campbell, Ionia County, Michigan shortly after the Civil War. Scott Hood's widow married Roxy Hood's brother Isaac Hogle in 1865 and they also relocated to Ionia county, Michigan. William and Roxy's four children are listed on Roxy's memorial page.
