STARKWEATHER, HON. W. A., was born in Preston, Connecticut, in 1822. In 1850 he came to Oregon and settled near Scio, but two years later located permanently in Clackamas County. He was one of the early Republicans. He represented Clackamas County in the territorial house in 1854, and served times in the state legislature, and in 1878 was elected to the State Senate. For years he was a delegate to the county and state conventions.

His father was, John Starkweather. Born January 23, 1790 in Preston, CT. Died December 22, 1868 in Preston, CT. Son of John Starkweather and Hannah Leonard. Husband of Lydia Button — married September 14, 1817 in Preston, CT. Father of John Leander Starkweather, Marcia Averal Starkweather, William Austin Starkweather, Abby Jane Starkweather, Henry Howard Starkweather, Lydia Maria Starkweather, John Leonard Starkweather, Hannah Georgiana Starkweather and Joseph Allen Starkweather.
Died December 22, 1868 in Preston, CT.

Born in Preston, Connecticut, in 1822; taught school there and in Ohio; went to California in 1850, and in the same year came to Oregon. Took a donation claim near Scio in 1852 and remained two years, when he removed to [Milwaukie], Clackamas County, and resided there still. Elected to the House of Representatives in 1854 and many times since. State Senator in 1878. Married Miss Eliza Gordon in 1853."
