Born in the village of Schimborn near Aschaffenburg, Margaret immigrated to America on 28 July 1840. She met and later married Simon Amrhein on 20 Jun 1848, in Franklin County, Ohio, and settled on a farm in Kelso Township, Dearborn County, Indiana. While there, she acted as a midwife to the community.
Simon and Margaret became the parents of 10 children all born on the farm in Kelso Township, except for the last who was born in Oldenburg, Franklin County, Indiana, before her birth in 1867. After the death of her husband, Margaret lived with her son Frank until her death in 1909.
