Claude served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on A-24 #41-15766, 8th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kaufman County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 15, 1941, prior to the war, in Dallas, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

Claude's A-24 while on a mission to hit Japanese ships in Gona, New Guinea, after being hit by enemy flak, crashed in the vicinity of Ambasi, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea.

On July 30, 1942, a radio report was received from Ambasi stating that four aircrew were safe and that Japanese patrols were in the vicinity. The radio went off the air suddenly and never came back on.

Claude is believed to have been "Executed" by the Japanese once this group was discovered. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Some reports note that they were not executed until August 8, 1942.

He was originally interred in New Guinea and was later repatriated here on April 26, 1950.
