Son of Thomas A. Courcelle & Flora J. Turner Courcelle.

Lucien served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17G #43-38060, 548th Bomber Squadron, 385th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Schenectady County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 27, 1941, prior to the war, in Albany, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a industry clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

He was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant on August 15, 1944.

Lucien was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was attacked by German aircraft and crashed near Pessin, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He may also have been awarded an Air Medal.

He was originally interred in Belgium and was later repatriated here on March 29, 1950.

His brother, Sgt Frederick Maurice Courcelle, also died during the war in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident.

He is buried with the other men he died with (see below), but has a cenotaph in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rutland, Vermont.
