Shot down over France on Aug 20, 1944. Only two members of the crew parachuted to safety. The remains of four crew members could not be identified. They were initially buried together in Luyens-Aix-en-Provence, France and subsequently returned the US.
Lt Casey graduated from St. Rose High School and was attending the University of Scranton, PA when he enlisted and participated in the civilian aviation training program. He was called to active duty in March 1943, earned his wings and was commissioned at Turner Field. Albany. Ga., in December 1943. He was a B-29 Marauder medium bomber pilot and was flying his 17th mission when shot down. 2Lt Casey was a son of Mary (Malia) Casey and the late Joseph Casey. Also surviving are the following brothers and sister: Sister M. Nora, I.H.M.
