He was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Caribou Township, near Lancaster, to John and Elana (Morrison) Maksymchuk and grew up there. Bill farmed before enlisting in the U. S. Army in 1944, where he served in the Pacific Theater of operations.
He married Shirley Ann Carlson on May 12, 1948, in Lancaster. They had been Babbitt residents since 1957. Bill worked in the Jet Drilling Department at Reserve Mining in Babbitt until health reasons forced him to retire in 1982.
Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Rosati-Stilinovich-Koski Veterans of Foreign War Post 8510 of Deer River.
Survivors include his wife Shirley; one son, Ronald (Mandy) Maksymchuk, Babbitt; six grandchildren, Curtis, Ronald, Jr., Jessica, Ashley, Dalton and Troy; and one great-grandchild, McKenna; three sisters, Dorothy (Scott Svuem, Lancaster, Jenny Pearson, Hallock, and Marie (Bob) Quirk, Detroit, Mich.; and one brother, Allen (Jeraine) Maksymchuk, Moorhead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby daughter in infancy.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt with Pastor Charles Barnes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church
Spring burial, with military rites accorded by the VFW Post 1539 and American Legion Maki-Pinola Post 535, both of Babbitt, will be in Argo Cemetery, Babbitt.
