Mr. Givens died Monday, July 24, 1978, at 11:30 a.m. in Tyler County Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home west of Colmesneil. He was a native of Mississippi and had made his home in Bethany Community for the past four years. He was the former owner of Ray's Cafeteria at Mobil Oil in Beaumont, a veteran of World War II Army, operated Givens Vending Co. in Baytown from 1948 to 1967 and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carrie Allen Givens of Colmesneil; two sons, Curtis and Linton Givens, both of Beaumont; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Starrett of Baytown and Mrs. Brenda Williams of Spring, TX; three brothers, Arnold Givens of Wiggins, MS, Glenn Givens of Gulf Port, MS, and Armond Givens of Miami, FL; four sisters, Mrs. Lola Schaffnit of Pittsburg, PA, Miss Velma Givens of Gulf Port, MS, Mrs. Nell Laundy of Gulf Port, MS, and Mrs. Tannis Merilat of AL; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers were J. B. Carter, Lou Kessler, Henry Lalande, Edward Bryant, Bill Gregory, and Jim Spurlock.
