Death David Pharoah, king of the Montauk Indians on Long Island has just died and was buried at the expence of the town of East Hampton the eastern extremity of which is Montauk.King was the son of Eleazer and Aurelia Pharoah.King Eleazer died some five or six years ago, and the title instead of falling to his son by right of primogeniture was conferred upon him by election this being the manner of selecting their rulers by the modern Montauk.Queen Aurelia was found dead on the floor of her cabin something less than two years ago.David married early a dau. of william fowler anouther Indian of the tribe and the union resulted in numerous off spring the oldest of which is about 21,king David was only 40 years of age, though old and decrepit in appearance. His shattered Constitution and early death were,no doubt, the result of those vices which are so common with the aborigines but his last disease was pulmonary consumption. On the Saturday previous to his death he was in Sag Harbor, and lay for several hours in the body of an open wagon, unable to move from it without help. He expressed a desire to see the village again before he died. The same evening he was carried to Montauk,50 miles distant and never came off again. His funeral was attended by his immediate family and a few whites. In stature the late king was rather short. His features were marked, though not so strikingly Indian as those of his hafe brother,Steven Pharoah,on Whom the title of king will probably decend.David claimed to be the only full blooded Montauk. He was fairly inteligent and proud of his royal extraction, but shiftless in his habits.Steven, the probable successor in line,is said not to be entirly full blood. He is however, commanding it stature, reserved, and dignified. He was a soldier in the army of the union, and possesses mush endurance. He is remarkable as a pedestrian 8-1-1878
