Husband of Harriet D. Beck who resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Donald served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24J #42-78608, 514th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Marathon County, Wisconsin prior to the war.

B-24J #42-78608, while on a mission to Szombathely, Hungary, was hit by enemy flax and crash landed in Austria during the war.

Donald was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and was later repatriated here on August 9, 1949.

Service # O-772113

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
