(IHS Reel #287298)
Mrs. Polly Massey
Death came to Mrs. Polly Massey
October 10, at the home of her
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sallie Massey.
Mrs. Massey was better known by
her large circle of friends as "Aunt
Polly" or "Grandma" Massey. She
was a kind, loving soul, whose great-
est pleasure was in serving others.
Mrs. Mary W. Massey was born
December 15, 1824, and departed this
life October 10, 1915, age 90 years,
9 months and 10 days. She was one
of the seven children of Elijah and
Henrietta Saulmon, all of whom have
passed away.
She was converted at an early age
and united with the Christian church
at Old Union, but later, in 1874, she
moved her membership to the Gen-
eral Baptist church at this place.
She was united in marriage to
Vardaman Eaton Oct. 28, 1841, and
to this union were born three child-
ren. After the death of Mr. Eaton
she married Abram Massey, May 6,
1855, and to this union six children
were born. In addition to bearing nine
children, she reared four step-children
to whom she was a real mother. All
of her children and step-children pre-
ceded her to an unknown world.
Grandma Massey lived an exem-
plary Christian and her life is above
reproach. During her last months
she repeatedly expressed a desire to
go, and often wondered why the Lord
prolonged her life; but she would fin-
ish by saying, "God's will be done."
Her nearest living relatives are 29
grandchildren and 36 great-grand-
children, all of whom have the deep
sympathy of the Star-Echo and a
host of friends.
