Norman served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-29 #42-63486, 881st Bomber Squadron, 500th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 31, 1943 at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Norman was "Killed In Action" when his B-29, after releasing bombs on the south Tokyo dock area, was hit by enemy flak and crashed into Tokyo Bay during the war. Ten crew members were killed and one parachuted to the ground and became a POW.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on October 4, 1949.

Service # O2056334

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
